How to save your browser from Cryptojacking [Javascript mining]

In resent time a new kind of mining method has emerged called JavaScript mining. As most of us probably know that mining is done with use of lots processing power that comes form CPU and GPUs.

but there are some crypto concurrency like monaro that can be mined using only CPU power easily. so that a new concept emerged to throw away the paid ads on websites and using JavaScripts to mine cryptos using users/visitors computer machine.

This is a good idea to save website visitors from unwanted advertisement and requesting them to use their processing power to mine.

Started with good intention this method soon became a weapon for the hijackers/hackers to inject the JavaScript code in websites and drain users CPU power without their consent.

This scripts comes in simple JavaScript code so that it can be easily added in websites , browser plugins etc.. so if you find some indication like laptop/computers getting extremely hot during some of the website visits/ or installing some browser plugins then there is a possibility that website/plugin/extension might be using this kind of method to mine crypto using your CPU power.

Hopefully When there is a problem then there are solutions.

There are some plugins/extensions are available that can save you from being a victim form this kind of attacks.

Here are some opensource miner blocker extensions that i found on github.

  1. No Coin
  2. Detect Miner
  3. crypto-miner-blocker
  4. Miner Blocker

Most of this extensions will notify you when you are visiting the websites that are using java script mining.

Please not that i haven't used everyone of them but i am listing here because these are opensource and you can check the code before using it so that you can be sure of what you are using in your computer.
