The bitcoin Segwit2x (B2X) hard fork is set to come at block 501451, on 28 December, after an initial cancellation in November. The B2X fork will increase block sizes from 1 MB to 4 MB, reducing transfer costs and speeds for users.
What is different in B2x from bitcoin?
On a high level, SegWit2X will allow for faster & cheaper transactions by allowing more transactions to occur in each block, and for blocks to have faster production rates. The founders of SegWit2X say this will happen by implementing the following:
Increased block sizes of 4MB (compared to 1MB for BTC)
A higher production rate of 2.5 minutes (compared to 10 minutes for BTC)
Recalculation of complexity after each block
Protection against repeated transactions
Use of the X11 encryption algorithm
The roadmap for the next one year for B2X also includes some other big additions in it:
Offline code support
Lightning network support for instant transactions
ZkSNARK support
Ethereum Smart Contract Support
Anonymous transactions
The Easiest Way to Get B2X
The easiest way for Bitcoin holders to get B2x coins is to send bitcoins to a supporting exchange before the fork occurs at block level 501451. Only bitcoins held by the exchange at the time of the fork will be credited with B2x.
