Aussies in New Zealand: On the scenic road to Dunedin

Today was a driving day as we made our way from Te Anau to Dunedin for our last few days before we fly back to Australia.

We started early, under heavy cloud, with the stunning countryside completely obscured with fog and low cloud. As we made our way to the south east the high mountains opened up to reveal slightly flatter pasture land and despite the fog it looked lush and green dotted here and there by cattle and sheep.

We stopped for morning tea at a pretty little rural town called Gore where we enjoyed a very good coffee and a couple scones before a short walk around to take a look. There's not much there with the main focus being agriculture, stock and milk production but it was very pretty though, and seemingly full of friendly people who made us feel welcome.

From Gore the fog lifted and we were left with a beautiful, if cold, day of blue skies and lovely fresh air. Keeping focused on the road is difficult with amazing views on both sides here but I managed to gladly. Mountains, pasture-land, rivers and creeks competed to capture my attention. It was a nice relaxing drive.

We only stopped a few times, just to grab a few photos as we were keen to get to Dunedin. We knew today was going to be a simple day of driving though so we just sat back and enjoyed the scenery putting no real pressure on seeing stuff other than the scenery.

I've never passed up the chance to get off the bitumen and took a few detours to see what we could find - Yep, more stunning views.

We arrived in Dunedin and checked into our accommodation after a quick drive around. It's a beautiful little spot. After getting settled in, which is happening as I type this, we are heading to Tunnel Beach and the Botanical gardens for a peep.

Tomorrow we're on the scenic train through the Taieri Gorge which we're hoping is a good day. There's a few other spots we are going to check out around the place so we have enough to keep us busy. We've been told about a couple of great restaurants near Oamaru, north of Dunedin, so we are planning to check out at least one of them too.

Anyway, our driving day turned out pretty good but now I'm eager to stretch my legs with some walking so I better get going.

Have a great day y'all!
