March 15 used to be a date known by all in the North West Region of Cameroon, Africa. It never failed us and the margin error used to be one to three days earlier or later.
First rains used to fall a few days before, on or a few days after March 15 yesteryears and immediately after the first rains, farmers plant their seed. It used to rain normally in the past with little or no interruptions and all the farmers were confident of this but over the past few years, a lot has changed.
Weather forecasts are becoming unreliable but the most interesting thing is that the weather has completely changed. We now have extreme heat in the heart of the rainy season and go for days without.
It now rains once and the sun shines for over five days paving way for dust to create at a time when we expect mud. Our weather has completely changed and this change is causing a lot of heat discomfort, malaria, typhoid and lots of diseases.
Our weather has completely changed and there is need for urgent action.
How has the weather of your community or region changed?
