Tasmania Adventure Final Days: Hobart + MONA

And now for my final piece for my Tasmania adventure…. Hobart! My previous blogs discussed my adventures in the wilderness, this time we took it easy and spent the last few days exploring what Hobart had to offer, specifically the MONA
.

In recognition of my gratitude I will be giving a nice little SBD tip to those who comment about my post (super special tip if you resteem!). My steempower is slowly growing and I’d like to give back to you guys a little more than a few cents!

I am still getting used to recording and taking photos of interesting things with a bloggers mindset. I’ve always enjoyed being in the present and take in the scenery more than to take photos, so unfortunately I did not take as many photos as I would of liked to. Some days you just want a break of taking your phone out for everything interesting and just enjoy it!

What I did take photos of was the MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). A rapidly growing contemporary art museum that is known for it’s out there pieces. Whether it was two skeletons fucking with an accompanying video of an xray footage during intercourse or countless vagina sculptures (to a very fine detail) laid across a wall, this a unique place (and apparently family friendly, I guess it’s just the human body).

Now the MONA isn’t quite in the center of Hobart and is around a 15 car ride from the CBD or enjoy the lavish champagne cruise (MONA ticket included) . As we’re broke we took the affordable uber option. Tickets to the Museum are $25.

Upon entering the museum we couldn’t help but notice a vineyard, chickens and roosters. Free to walk around a peck at the grass (now this is freerange chook!).

As you enter the museum you are led downstairs 3 stories below ground where you begin in ‘The house of everything’. It literally is a house of… everything from spiritual art to what the audio curator describes as misunderstood art there is something for everyone to say… oh… never seen anything like this!

My first example includes this pieces to which the audio curator described as to the best of my memory “The artist was touring 16th century Italian churches when one day some the old paint sprinkled down from the ceiling to his face causing him to have strong visual and audible hallucinations. The man had previously no artistic training, began drawing perfect geometrical shapes citing he was being spoken to by God.” Pretty crazy he did this!

Next we have anatomically correct dinosaurs made out of…. Dinosaurs? And… pavement… old cassette tapes? Yes these are some very creative design in assembling Stegosaurus!

Unknown back story. Just some crazy shit at the MONA (forgive my politically incorrect art description).

A cool looking walkway, art you can walk in, I like!

From what the curator told me these are books stacked on top of each other like Jenga, however there is a twist. The artist created two secret fold out draws into the piece (total mind fuck right?). Can you spot the draws?

Add a meter and a half metal casing, many litres of thick black oil (to the rim of the metal casing) and you have a fantastic optical illusion

The crazy stair cases that lead… somewhere?

As mentioned the vagina wall! Unfortunately this is not my photo, however I figured it was definitely still worth mentioning!

To end our afternoon of walking around for several hours we orded these two behemoths burgers from Burger Haus for $18. It includes 2 golden chicken schnitzels as the bun, beef, cheese, egg, siracha mayo, fried onions and all the veggie fillings.

Seeing as Gabby and I had a flight that afternoon and we had already checkout of our Airbnb, there was no place to have a food coma other than a local playground (no shame). As we collapsed into food labour and set our alarms, we awoke to the sound of children playing and their grandparents keeping a cautious distance from our food babies! Somehow we managed to roll to our plane seats back home.

Thank you again steemians, stay tuned for more. I have plenty more of blogging ideas to share!
