Le Miracle de la mule

History has preserved the memory of a prodigious prodigy which St. Anthony of Padua performed in Toulouse in the twelfth century, and which is commonly referred to as the miracle of the mule. A heretic, named Guiald, quite influential in the city and of a very obstinate character, dared, one day, to discuss with our great saint, on one of the most important points of the religion. He knew the Bible perfectly well, spoke Hebrew, and, with his knowledge, claimed to triumph over St. Anthony.
