The action takes place on Earth 0 in the Castle Bat. A few hours after the death of the ruler of this Earth, Batmage, the Beyonder, B-Rex, Groblins and one of the Army of Alfreds groups called Alfrood insert Bruce's (-22) surviving brain into the body of the Final Bruce Wayne. Waking up, Wayne (-22) begins to shape his new body and wipes B-Rex off the face of the earth. When Perpetua telepathically communicates with the Clown, he makes his new body look like the old one. King of Horror learns that Perpetua has destroyed Earth 30. As a result, only 7 of the 53 Earths remain in the Multiverse. Also, the main character learns about the The Hands. After the conversation, Bruce (-22) erases Batmage, Terry and Alfrood with one movement of his hand. Sensing the darkness inside one of his Robins, Wayne (-22) asks him to tell his origin story. After the story, Batman Who Laughs makes him King Robin. Concentrating, the Clown sees that:
- Lobo (0) finds an unknown box in the jungle;
- Batman (0), Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, George (0), Jonah Hex and Swamp Thing travel to New Apokolips;
- The Flash (Wally West) (0) is in the secret bunker of Flash (Barry Allen) (0) and the Justice Society of America.
The King of Terror decides to kill Perpetua, and then create his own Multiverse, which will be filled with 52 unprecedented nightmares. Having decided to stop being blue, the main character, changing his body, becomes completely black. This is how Batman who laughs becomes The Darkest Knight.
