In my point of view,Soft pastels are the best art material available. They are super fun,messy and highly addictive.One year back only, my friend @footlooselatika suggested me to use soft pastels,so I decided to give it a try. Trust me! till now,they are my favorite medium to work on with.
As a beginner,I found them very easy to get started with,a piece of paper and some pastel sticks is all you need. There are no special skills or materials required for putting down pastel drawings.
The best part is soft pastels behaves in a very predictable manner it goes down on the paper and does not change. Colours mix in a predictable way. You know what you will get and you know what will happen when you add more pastel to your paper.Plus there's a room for mistakes too, it's not like you can't undo things, so one need not to be very careful while using them,just enjoy the process.There are other benefits too,like one never need to stop and wait for a paint layer to dry. You can always continue working, whenever and however you like. There's no extra preparation required,no cleaning of brushes,pallets and all.I think these reasons are enough to love them.
