On a winter swing through the south looking for warm weather, one stop was to Pinckney Island, South Carolina. It is a National Wildlife Refuge just off Hilton Head Island. My friend and I hiked about 10 miles around the island that day, carrying along backpacks full of camera gear. I was looking for photos that I ultimately could use as inspiration for painting when I got back home. Below is the first one I painted from that trip.
