Do animals feel sadness?

Most every species of animals is known to show some sort of sadness, whether wild or domestic.

I've heard about a dog's story go into a sort of depression when our other dog passed away. It took about 3 months for her to get over it.

Wild elephants are known to be highly emotional, and when one animal in the herd dies, many are known to go though a period of mourning afterwards. There have been other cases in which 2 elephants became friends, and ended up getting separated. After the separation, they were very upset, and sometime ended up killing the person keeping them. a lion passed away and his lion friend laid on the site he was buried for days, refusing to eat.

a donkey and goat were rescued from an abusive situation and they were adopted bydifferent people. The donkey's health rapidly declined as he refused to eat, and everyone said that he just appeared sad. They reunited him with the goat, and he immediately perked up, ran around and started eating.

Animals have emotions just like humans do, they feel joy, sadness, fear, pain, anxiety, etc
