As his 16 year old owner was hiding in the closet, Rex tried to fight off the burglars who were trying to take everything they saw valuable.
As Javier and Rex were trying to hide in the closet, Rex couldn't help his instincts to protect his home and his owner so he jetted out of the closet and attacked the unwanted intruders. As Rex did what he could, the beating from the burglars eventually sent him running upstairs clearing out the each room one by one.
When the intruders walked into the room where Javier was hiding in the closet, Rex, with as little energy he had left gave it another fight. In this second defensive attack Rex was shot four times defending his owner. The sirens finally blared in the background and scared the burglars away.
The police were able to get Javier out safely, but unfortunately they weren't able to apprehend the burglars.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his surgery and many X-rays and everything needed to stabilize him.
The family has raised over $52,000 from 1,795 people in just two days.
