Former Walmart CEO and billionaire Marc Lore recently presented his vision of what he aspires to be the “most open, fair and inclusive city in the world.” It is not yet known where in the US it would rise.
“Our goal is to create a new city in the United States that sets a global standard for urban life, expands human potential, and becomes a model for future generations,” the company shares through its Instagram account.
If all goes according to plan, the first inhabitants of Telosa will arrive in 2030 and the goal is for Telosa to be able to house up to 50,000 people, a number that could increase to five million inhabitants in the next four decades.
“When I look out 30 years from now, I imagine Equitism serving as a blueprint for other cities and even the world,” Lore says on the Telosa website.
Telosa aspires to be the perfect city. In addition to an innovative urban design, with a large skyscraper called Equitism Tower, the utopian city of Lore promises transparent participatory democracy and a fair and supportive “new social model”.
In a promotional video, Lore describes his proposal as “the most open, fair and inclusive city in the world”. According to the Telosa website, the city will bet on renewable energy and will ban fossil fuels. The streets will prioritize bicycles and pedestrians.
There are still quite a few details of the project to be solved, not the least of which is a reported $400 billion in funding needed to build out the city.
Along with the question of who will finance this project, the other big question is where Telosa will be located.
The alternatives at stake are Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, and the Appalachian region, according to the project’s official website.
