Ants... - Wednesday, June 26, 2024

I think ants are evolving right in my house šŸ˜‚. There's a proverb here in Indonesia called, "Di mana ada gula, di situ ada semut" (Where there is sugar, there are bound to be ants). Sugar and ants are never separated. There's even a romance quote for that relationship.

Ants and Sugar by yourquote

Today, my mother made a stir-fry of head mustard/gai choy. Although it's a vegetable (what ants eat also), it has a crunchy texture with a bitter flavor. My mother thought that ants wouldn't love that and put it on a food shelf. It's surprisingly covered in ants when I see it after 1 hour. I immediately put it out to the trash and cleaned the bowl.

My mother was surprised too when I informed her because she already spread coffee grounds around the shelf that supposedly repel ants. No matter what's on the road and what food they want, I think they just go for it šŸ˜‚. We've tried cleaning, spreading coffee grounds, and spreading soap water too (they wait until the water is possible to cross). Survival life of ants. I think I need to close the nest as I find where they are from. I'll do it when I have time because I need to move the shelf first. The nest is on behind the shelf.

Where did the ants come? Mini garden on the balcony. My family just can repel them only to not go to the kitchen or somewhere where we stocked up food. My kitchen ants nature:

  • No need for sugar, even bitter vegetable is still a target
  • What are coffee grounds? walk without worry
  • Oh, there's a soap water or water. Checking... Possible to cross? Yes... then walk on the water. No? Wait until possible

Luckily, ants aren't big enough to conquer the world šŸ˜‚. They have good teamwork that makes almost everything possible.
