Perfectly Executed Plan

It is odd to see him behind a Glock years before he has a chance to get behind the wheel, but it finally happened. One of my long time dreams was to teach my boys to drive a five-speed, but I do not own a car.

Back to driving...

I had asked a neighbor if it would be possible to find a place far outside the city where my sone could get behind the wheel to practice a bit. I will teach him the clutch and assure he is careful. There are no learner's permits here, but I learned that there is a customary way to give lessons without breaking any laws. There are large grassy areas all along all the highways, like a constant long series of huge rest stops.

We were up at the crack of dawn, headed out with my neighbor to the spot were everyone does this sort of thing. As soon as we got out of the city, my neighbor let me get behind the wheel and drive for a while. Then we saw an area larger than a football field. It was eight in the morning, that's this morning, and the plan was to do a brunch barbecue while @rx7 got the feel of the clutch and then of the whole off-road driving experience.

There were occasional dirt bikes that came through like a flock of loud birds, police dogs in training at the far end, and at least three other kids that were allowed to drive by their parents. I guess this is the norm here in the deep south?!?! Who'd a thunk?

This one was taken when we took our first break - he had successfully let out the clutch several times without killing it! A happy lad.

My youngest is new to Hive though he has seen me posting here for years and complained about me stopping to grab pictures of this or that for my posting habit. It was a big day for him and you can read all about it on his blog @rx7. He has made some fairly thoughtful posts so far about his games, computing and car passions - some encouragement from my followers is encouraged :)

I shot a lot of video

It's bumpy, but I am working my way through the footage to post some of his experience for family to see - expected to have it up tomorrow.

Until then, you are all welcome to read about it from his own perspective
