- Miriam Makeba ( SOUTH AFRICA )
Mama Africa brought African music to west from the likes of jazz and traditional songs in the xhosa language.
Miriam Makeba began her music career singing for her cousin’s band, the Cuban Brothers, but it was only when she began to sing for the Manhattan Brothers in 1954 that she began to build a reputation. She toured South Africa, Zimbabwe (former Rhodesia) and the Congo with the band until 1957. After this Makeba sang for all-women group, the Skylarks, which combined jazz and traditional African melodies.

Renowned for his high octane performances, Fela Kuti is acclaimed to be the greatest African artists to have ever lived.
- Brenda Faisse ( SOUTH AFRICA )
Brenda Nokuzola Fassie was a South African anti-apartheid Afropop singer. Affectionately called MaBrrr by her fans, she was sometimes described as the "Queen of African Pop" or the "Madonna of The Townships" or simply as The Black Madonna.
Queen of African Pop Brenda Faisse's story continues to inspire a whole generation of artists. Born in Langa, Cape Town, she left for Soweto, Johannesburg to pursue her dreams of being a star at the age of 18. Brenda became the lead singer of the popular township pop group Brenda & The Big Dudes.
- Yousssou N'dour ( SENEGAL )
N'Dour (born 1 October 1959) is a Senegalese singer, songwriter, composer, occasional actor, businessman, and politician. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine described him as, "perhaps the most famous singer alive" in Senegal and much of Africa.
A native of the impoverished Media section of Dakar, N'Dour inherited his musical skills from his mother, a griot (oral historian) who taught him to sing as a child. A seasoned performer before his teens, N'Dour joined the popular group the Star Band de Dakar at the age of 19.
- Mustapha Tettey Addy ( GHANA )
Mustapha Tettey Addy (born 1942 in Avenor, Accra, Ghana) is a Ghanaian master drummer and ethnomusicologist. Addy is the founder of The Obonu Drummers, which performs creative drumming composed by Addy that is based upon the royal Obonu drumming of the Ga people and other Ghanaian drumming forms.
We know and love Mustapha Tettey Addy for his kpanlogo music. He introduced that beautiful Ghanaian drum, rhythm and dance to the West. The growing fan base proves that the kpanlogo drum is a great, less commercialized alternative to the djembe.
- E.T Mensah ( Ghana )
Emmanuel Tettey Mensah, best known as E. T. Mensah (31 May 1919 – 19 July 1996), was a Ghanaian musician who was regarded as the "King of Highlife" music. He led the band "The Tempos", a group that toured widely in West Africa.
They also had the honour of playing for the president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, on several occasions.
- Angelique Kidjo( BENIN )
Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo,known as Angélique Kidjo (born July 14, 1960), is a Beninese, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and activist, noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos. Time magazine has called her "Africa's premier diva.
"The 40 Most Powerful Celebrities In Africa" by Forbes magazine.
The Daily Telegraph in London described her as "The undisputed queen of African music" during the 2012 Olympic Games River of Music Festival.
- Yvonne Chaka Chaka
Yvonne Chaka Chaka (born Yvonne Machaka in 1965) is an internationally recognised and highly respected South African singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, humanitarian and teacher. Dubbed the "Princess of Africa" (a name she received after a 1990 tour), also known across the African continent.
As a young performer Yvonne was the first Black child[4] to appear on South African television in 1981.Songs like "I'm Burning Up", "I'm in Love With a DJ", "I Cry for Freedom", "Makoti", "Motherland" and the ever-popular "Umqombothi" ("Traditional Beer") ensured Yvonne's stardom.
One of her songs also features in the opening scene of the 2005 movie Hotel Rwanda.
- Lucky Dube ( SOUTH AFRICA )
Born Lucky Philip Dube on 3 August 1964 – 18 October 2007, was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian. His parents named him Lucky because he was born in poor health, and the doctors thought he would die but he survived. Lucky's parents separated before he was born, so his mother had to bring him up. Due to apartheid and the overall racism in South Africa his mother was barely able to take care of the children and they grew up in poverty.
He recorded 22 albums in Zulu, English and Afrikaans in a 25-year period and was South Africa's biggest-selling reggae artist.His songs include...

- P Square ( NIGERIA )
P-Square are a Nigerian R&B duo of identical twin brothers Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye. Born on the 18th November 1981. They are one of the famous duo's whose music took africa by storm and it's widely loved by we the Africans and the Western world.They produce and release their albums through Square Records. In December 2011, they signed a record deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik label. In May 2012, they signed a record distribution deal with Universal Music South Africa. In 2003, they released their debut album "Last Night", followed by "Get Squared" in 2005.
