Пригадується мені Великдень у 2021 році. Саме був розпал пандемії коронавірус, масові скупчення людей були під забороною, то вперше у житті я з сім'єю освячував великодній кошик не в церкві, а вдома, самостійно покропивши страви у ньому (а це традиційно паска, писанки, шинка, ковбаска, масло, сир, ну звісно ж хрін) освяченою водою, що зберігалася для певних святкових ритуалів.
I am reminded of Easter in 2021. It was the height of the coronavirus pandemic, mass gatherings of people were prohibited, so for the first time in my life, my family and I consecrated the Easter basket not in the church, but at home, independently sprinkling the food in it (which is traditionally paska, Easter eggs, ham, sausage, butter , cheese, well, of course, horseradish) with holy water, which was kept for certain festive rituals.
Весь світ жив тоді в тривозі і ми в Україні також, бо ця хвороба здавалося нещадною, бо ж від неї загинуло стільки людей. Але ми тоді не підозрювали, що через рік можливість святкувати Великдень вдома для багатьох українських чоловіків (і меншою мірою жінок) буде лише мрією, бо сім'ї українців (деякі назавжди) розділить страшна війна, яку 24 лютого 2022 року розпочала проти України Росія (точніше тут мова йде саме про повномасштабне вторгнення, бо Росія воює з Україною з 2014 року, у менших масштабах, лише на сході і заперечуючи свою присутність).
The whole world lived in anxiety then, and so did we in Ukraine, because this disease seemed merciless, because so many people died from it. But we did not suspect at the time that a year from now the opportunity to celebrate Easter at home would be just a dream for many Ukrainian men (and to a lesser extent women), because the families of Ukrainians (some of them forever) would be divided by the terrible war that Russia launched against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 ( more precisely, here we are talking about a full-scale invasion, because Russia has been at war with Ukraine since 2014, on a smaller scale, only in the east and denying its presence).
Писанки, традиційні великодні яйця в Україні, були відомі ще у дохристиянські часи в слугували водночас і ритуальною стравою, в оберегом, бо ж шкаралупу можна було покрити візерунками та прихованими рунами, які мали захищати того, кому вона була призначена, від злих сил. Коли писанки стали органічним атрибутом християнського Великодня, то їхнє первинне призначення дещо призабулося і знову стало відомим завдяки етнографам та іншим дослідникам.
Pysanky, traditional Easter eggs in Ukraine, were known even in pre-Christian times and served as a ritual dish, as a talisman, because the shell could be covered with patterns and hidden runes, which were supposed to protect the person to whom it was intended from evil forces. When Easter eggs became an organic attribute of the Christian Easter, their original purpose was somewhat forgotten and became known again thanks to ethnographers and other researchers.
Зараз, коли велика війна в Україні триває вже другий рік, писанки, які їдуть на фронт до оборонців нашої батьківщини, теж можуть слугувати своєрідними оберегами від злої, інфернальної та неконтрольованої орди, що як хмари нечисті суне на нашу багатостраждальну землю.
Now, when the great war in Ukraine has been going on for the second year, Easter eggs that go to the front to the defenders of our homeland can also serve as a kind of talismans against the evil, infernal and uncontrolled horde that descends like unclean clouds on our long-suffering land.
