Prime Minister Netanyahu hinted on social media that there are differences between Israel and the Trump administration over the recently announced Hamas disarmament agreement. He said, "The Trump administration sent us a draft, but we did not agree to it." It is not our draft, and we conveyed our opinion," he said. He went on to say, “We will defend our interests wisely and resolutely,” emphasizing, “The Israeli military will continue to take all necessary measures to protect our territory and people.”
The peace commission established to implement President Trump’s post-Gaza plan and the recent disarmament proposal agreed upon by Hamas include provisions for Israel to halt airstrikes and begin withdrawing troops from Gaza Strip once Hamas begins disarmament. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s remarks that day were the first position Israel had presented on the matter since President Trump made the agreement public.
Meanwhile, Israel and Lebanon, who are negotiating a ceasefire mediated by the United States, began their seventh round of talks in Rome, the capital of Italy, on the agenda of adding a “demonstration zone” in southern Lebanon. U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Foghott announced the negotiations on X and said, “The United States will fully support both governments in eliminating the security threat posed by Israel, restoring sovereignty over southern Lebanon, and providing continued security guarantees to both countries.” According to AFP, that morning a motorcade carrying delegations from both countries arrived at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. This negotiation is scheduled to continue until the 6th.
