Iāve been doing this for quite some time now, and today, for my 106th edition, Iām featuring a British musician, composer, and singer named Bruce Douglas, who is celebrating his 71st trip around the Sun today!
At first, based solely on his nameāwhich I found on a website I often check for a simple, clear list of musicians celebrating birthdaysāI wasnāt even planning to feature him. But I ended up choosing him anyway, because his musical style really stood out in the band he was part of in the ā70s and ā80s, called āThe Jam.ā
The band āThe Jamā was initially influenced by British bands of the 1960s.
The band that featured the bassist celebrating his birthday that day was heavily influenced byāand had a sound somewhat similar toāāThe Who,ā āThe Kinks,ā or even the iconic āThe Beatles,ā incorporating original elements of a more psychedelic rock style with a very strong bass line and a driving beat!
Many bands flourished in England at that time, such as the aforementioned āThe Whoā and āThe Kinks,ā but also āJoy Division,ā which left its mark on many generations. I can say that even though I recognized them and listened to them allāeven when I was youngerāthe fact that I was born in 1978 meant they were cult bands Iād listen to when I went out at night, but they werenāt part of the music charts of my time, obviously.
