CCC's Street Art Contest # 191 "DJ Nervoso"

I continue with the real works of art that I found in Bairro do Mocho, in Santarém, Lisbon. 😉

And today I bring you a work of art by a world-famous Portuguese artist. Born Alexandre Farto in 1987, many people recognize and know him around the world as Vhils. His innovative and original technique of sculpting or carving in bas-relief revolutionized street art. One of the most promising and globally recognized artists, Vhils shares with the world his contemporaneity of urban societies and their saturated environments, which promote a struggle between the saturated environments of personal and individual aspirations and the demands of everyday life.

Always looking for a beauty that is not initially visible, finding beneath a thin veneer that covers what should be in plain sight. Alexandre brings out and into the open what was underneath and elevates the whole experience of art in an extremely original way. Vhils grew up in Seixal, in a heavily industrialized suburb, and was probably very influenced by this environment and the profound transformations that took place in the intense urban development between the 1980s and 1990s.

Creative deconstruction is in fact his signature, uncovering a surface - like an archaeologist - leaving the art that only then appears in plain sight!

As I mentioned earlier, since 2005 he has presented his work in more than 30 countries around the world, often exhibiting as a solo artist or in collaborative projects.

An experimentalist from the first moment, and with a passion for painting with stencils or engraving in metal, working with cisel he always tries to leave his mark on what he transforms, deconstructing parts to reveal his best face.

The man depicted in his artwork is DJ Nervoso, an artist born in São Tomé and Príncipe, who has lived in Portugal for two decades, and in this neighborhood. His mesmerizing rhythms have brought visibility to the neighbourhood and a change in the paradigm of Portuguese techno music. Nervous, he has always tried to bring an inclusive note to dance floors. Ever since he was young, he noticed that the clubs that played Kuduro caused some division on the dancefloors, and since then he has tried to unite the best of both worlds, Kuduro and progressive techno. Although it's not one of my favorite styles of music, I confess that the rhythmic beat makes anyone want to jump on the dance floor and release the inner energy that is part of everyone.
