These are hornworm caterpillars that turn into large moths but I don't know what species they are. They sure got nice and plump from eating the leaves but I am glad to hear that your jasmine plant wasn't

I read that squirrels usually have 5 babies so that might be why is its so big. Dramatic is a great word for the autumn leaves. : )
