Chainat's traditional snack!
We had a chance to visit Chainat province and first thing I saw and thought about it with myself, 'what is this snack/dessert?'. It's everywhere! At cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and other places. It's just so crazy that's it's everywhere so I had to ask my local friend there in Chai nat about it.
Luckily, she knows the owner and even could bring us to visit the place where they produce the dessert/snack so that we can see how and where they make it. That's kind of cool if you think about it :)
'Sesame Snack (ขนมงา)' is what exactly the snack translated to English. With a thin dough around the stuffing which could be something from ground mung beans, durian, sweeten bale fruit, or sweeten radish! The fact I love about the most is that it's been around for more than a 100 years! Starting when Chinese immigrants started to immigrate into Thailand and brought their own recipe here. Yes, it's Chinese influenced.
The place we went is where you can have it the freshest it could get as it's right off the oven just almost the minute we could taste it. In my opinion, it actually taste better when served warm. It's quite heavy of a snack though so just a few pieces (as small as in the photo), we got full! #lol
Pretty good if you ask me so we got a few boxes home as souvenir for our family.
I have never seen this snack elsewhere in Thailand so if you have a chance to go visit Chainat, feel free to grab a box to give it a try. Unfortunately, I don't think the factory that we went open for public visit usually. Not a problem tho, Like I said, they're literally everywhere in Chainat. You can't miss it!
