Miso cola & Miso ice-cream... you read that right!
Another day, another Shimonoseki goodness. There, we stayed at the Via Inn Shimonoseki! We initially checked into the fancy-pants Dormy Inn Premium Shimonoseki, which I told you about in a previous post, but we thought it was a bit too steep for our budget. So, we packed our bags and moved on to Via Inn Shimonoseki - a more affordable and practical option for us.
We're in for a pleasant surprise! We discovered a hidden gem right next door called Menba Tadokoroshoten Shimonosekiekimaeten (I'm pretty sure it's owned by the same owner as the hotel) - a ramen place that features all things miso! Now, I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for a good bowl of ramen, and this place did not disappoint!
They had several types of miso ramen on their menu, and we were eager to try them all. The first one we tasted was their classic miso ramen - a thick and hearty broth that had a subtle sweetness to it. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the toppings were just right. Another one was red miso.. I honestly can't tell the differences O.o
But wait, there's more! Menba Tadokoroshoten Shimonosekiekimaeten takes their miso obsession to a whole new level. They even have miso cola on their menu! Now, I've never heard of miso-flavored soda before, so naturally, we had to give it a try. It had a very very mild miso flavor almost none I think. Nothing too special I would say but it sounds cool, that's for sure.
And if you thought that was the end of their miso craze, think again. They also serve miso ice cream! Yes, you read that right - miso ice cream. We were never hesitant.. "when in Shimonoseki, do as the Shimonosekians do, " (#LOL if there's such thing!) so we ordered a small bowl(?). Also, I love savory ice-cream :D The miso flavor was subtle, and the ice cream itself was creamy and delicious. Imagine that with sweet and salty taste. I could do it again and again!
All in all, our experience at Menba Tadokoroshoten Shimonosekiekimaeten was one of the highlights of our trip to Shimonoseki. I felt so lucky to have come across the place and given their miso-infused dishes a try. Especially, the miso ice-cream!!!
