Immerse yourself in the comforting flavors of Czech cuisine with Česnečka, an aromatic garlic soup that's both simple and nourishing. Traditionally served as an appetizer or a light main course, this soup highlights the robust taste of garlic combined with the earthiness of potatoes and the aromatic warmth of marjoram.

Ingredients

🥔 4 brown potatoes
🧄 8 cloves of garlic
🍗 5 cups chicken broth, Campbell's
🧈 1 tablespoon lard or unsalted butter, Lurpak
🌿 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
🌶️ ¼ teaspoon black pepper
🧂 Salt
🍃 2 bay leaves
🍖 Cubed ham
🧀 Cubed cheese, mild cheddar
🥖 Croutons
🌿 Fresh parsley

Instructions

1- Prepare Ingredients:

  • Separate and peel 8 cloves of garlic, then thinly slice each clove.
  • Peel 4 brown potatoes using a metal potato peeler.

2- Cook the Soup:

  • Place ProCook Dutch oven on medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of lard or unsalted butter.
  • Add the cubed potatoes and bay leaves to the pot, frying gently for a few minutes while stirring.

3- Add Ingredients:

  • Add the sliced garlic and continue frying alongside the potatoes for 2 more minutes. Ensure the garlic doesn't burn.
  • Pour in 5 cups of chicken broth and season with salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper.

4- Simmer Soup:

  • Stir the mixture, cover the pot with a lid, and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.

5- Finish Soup:

  • Once tender, remove the lid and stir in 1 teaspoon of dried marjoram to infuse aromatic flavors.
