I'm happy to hear you're on your game in terms of preparation.

Steve Honkus has wood gas chops unequalled in my estimation. What he makes is very high quality, low tar, and clean burning, that prevents valves being fouled in infernal combustion engines. If you can weld at that level, or know a very good welder, making gasifiers of that quality will set you for life. Gasoline won't last long at prices we can afford after ~2 weeks (when tankers quit coming), as you are well aware. Pri-G can keep stored gasoline usable for ~5 years, but that's not really very long, is it? Get you a good bow saw, for sawing logs into firewood without petrol. If you're of stout constitution, you can also use a bow saw to make lumber from logs, with a proper guide rail. If you can hire a couple strapping young lads to push saws, you could have a business exchanging dimensional lumber for other blessings of civilization. Good water is a key resource, but my recollection is that Kiwis are blessed with copious rains.
My life has been turned upside down recently. My next door neighbor for years began acting very sketchy after I was forced to move by Evil, Inc., and ghosted me for a month. Out of the blue she contacted me confused and scared, having memory problems and extreme depression. When I sent another former neighbor to check on her, they brought her directly to me, and when I got her to Urgent Care, they whisked off to a big city hospital to remove the tumor from her brain. During this process the last time I saw her was when the ambulance came to take her to the big city, and somehow her sister in NY got medical PoA. She has my friend imprisoned in hospice, receiving no medical care for the brain cancer, prevented from being contacted by all her friends and other family, essentially just putting her in a locked cage without medical treatment until she dies.
After the surgery my friend has profound apraxia. She knows what she wants to say but can't get the words out of her mouth. This makes it very difficult for her to protest her treatment, and her estranged sister lies to her and keeps me out of the loop. She only allowed me to visit because my friend kept trying to escape to come and find me. When I did visit, I discovered my friend is literally held captive behind locked doors, all her phone calls are monitored, her packages are opened by staff before she can have them (and she told me yesterday they're stealing her personal stuff), she's not allowed food from outside the institution, and can't go outside. The only way I can visit is in a room where staff is physically present to observe us at all times. You cannot imagine her begging me to get her out of there so at least she doesn't die in captivity. She can only think clearly when the sedatives they give her wear off.
I'm enraged. Her sister told me that my friend wants to die, and lies to me every time she contacts me. I just quit responding to her because anything I had to say would only make things worse. When I saw my friend on Saturday I asked her about it, and she signed a document starting 'I want to live' and stating she wanted me to have PoA so I could get her out of jail and get her treatment for her cancer. I am told the doctors said chemo or radiation would kill her, but I am prevented from speaking to her doctors directly. On top of that, she's coping with the apraxia, her captors stealing all her stuff, and being cut off from her vast network of friends and family, and being killed in captivity by medical neglect. I have spooled up a quest for a lawyer that can bust her out, and am seriously considering marriage, because then I am immediately granted PoA. Everything else I can avoid is on hold while I get her out of death jail.
Pray for my friend, because I know our conscious goodwill affects us, even sight unseen.
