OpenAI, the company behind this project is currently under scrutiny by several regulators who are concerned about its verification system based on human iris recognition. It is interesting that it is assumed that the iris can contain more information about a certain person than a fingerprint.
Ok, iris scanning is supposed to be a very accurate method of identification, which means the company would have access to a large amount of personal data. As far as i know, these types of biometric data could be used to track people, manipulate their behavior or steal their identity.
Once the iris is scanned, a unique code can be used to claim digital tokens that will be distributed in a virtual wallet generated by a special device called the Orb. Immediately after scanning the iris the device will convert the image into a numeric code which will then be erased to protect the privacy of the person concerned.
From my point of view, it's an intriguing, super weird project that will continue to evolve thanks to the huge funds obtained. My recommendation would be to avoid these types of projects ~ at least until the waters become clearer regarding the usefulness of this type of controversial project.
