What would it have meant to be a childhood parent of a child in the seventies? There was Roe versus Wade, and the idea that abortion killed off a generation of thugs (Freakanomics)

But unprotected sex leading to parenthood during a decade when prophylactics were not popular, before AIDS...groundbreaking.

I seen it right there at 716 Fenimore street. A young, Jamaican couple had a daughter in 1981. They were never married. I helped raise their child, because I was home alone in the summer.

There was a young, unwed mother, a baby-blue netball goal in the two-car garage and a carton full of White castle burgers. Then there was me. I ate most of the burgers.
