The Liberty Bridge and the Liberty Statue [PhotoChain Challenge - 36th Edition]

Good night, fellow bees!

Here are a few shots of the Liberty Bridge and the Liberty Statue of Budapest. Both landmarks have their name in honour to the victims of the World War II...

This is my entry for the PhotoChain Challenge: 36th Edition, hosted by @davidesimoncini. The keywords for this week are Sculpture and Bridge, picked by the previous winners of the challenge: @tripode and myself. 😊

My personal keyword for this week is... Flag.

The Liberty Bridge is an interesting work of engineering... and art. Its top is adorned by two eagles, a few mythological figures as well as the coat of arms of Hungary.

This bridge was built at the end of the 19th century and it was originally called Bridge Franz Joseph, named after the Emperor Franz Joseph who attended its inauguration.

It was the first bridge of Budapest rebuilt after the end of World War II and it was then that it got its new name.

Here is an overall view of the bridge, with the Gellért Hill in the background...

It's at the top of the Gellért Hill where the Liberty Statue is located, having been built immediately after the World War II, as a memorial to all of the victims.

I took the chance to use the great zoom capabilities of this camera to capture the statue itself.

Below is a crop of the above image, so you can better see the details in the statue. It represents a lady holding up a giant feather. Interesting concept... 😊

Finally, I took another shot at the other side of the Danube river. After crossing to Buda, I was able to capture the bridge with the Pest part of the city in the background.

The day was hot and sunny... perfect for a walk and to take photos of the city! 😎

I hope you enjoyed these photos as much as I liked visiting Budapest. I hope I can return someday...
