Why I procrastinate

I think laziness plays a big part in it. Sometimes, I'm too lazy to do certain things when they are supposed to be done. I see myself pushing these tasks until a deadline comes or I absolutely have to do them.

When a task seems cumbersome or too stressful to do, there is more reason for me to procrastinate. Procrastination is a form of escape from duty for me. It feeds my laziness.

My efforts to break the habit

I have tried breaking the habit of procrastination. Over time, my efforts to break it failed. It would work for a while and then I would go back to procrastinating. But recently, I decided to be strategic about it.
First, I decided to procrastinate on the insignificant things, the things that are not so important. This clears up space for me to do the crucial things. I list out all the things I have to do, then I push aside the unnecessary ones, so that I can focus on the really important ones. When I am done with the important things, then I perform those insignificant tasks I pushed aside.

Furthermore, I break big tasks into smaller tasks. This would make me accomplish these tasks easier. Breaking them into smaller tasks would also help me find the courage to begin those tasks, and most times, when I start doing one task, the rhythm continues until I finish every other task. The important thing is starting.

Next, when I feel like procrastinating, I just talk myself out of it and keep saying I can do it. The effect is that, unconsciously, this gives me the energy to do what I have to do when it should be done.

In addition, I give myself deadlines to do tasks. It makes me have this feeling of urgency. I try to accomplish tasks as fast as possible. I don't want to feel relaxed until I have done those tasks. The benefit that comes with this is that accomplishing tasks as quickly as possible will give me satisfaction, which will make me want to accomplish even more tasks.

What my life would look like if I eliminated procrastination

If I eliminated procrastination, my life would be really good. I would take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. I would accomplish so much more.

I will be a much better and more effective person. Procrastination reduces productivity, so if I eliminated procrastination, my productivity would soar.

Conclusion

I am a work in progress. I love how far I have come in trying to stop procrastinating. I am proud of my achievement so far. I know that in time, I will get over that habit completely. It is a gradual process.
