Christmas is already peeping around the corner again, and honestly, it still surprises me how fast the year always wraps up, you know one minute you are sweating under the sun in April, and the next thing you know, Christmas decorations have started hanging everywhere like they were just waiting, and with Christmas always comes the usual conversation and that is gift ideas.
Now, for me, Christmas gifts are not something I have ever really been big on receiving, I am not even sure why, maybe life happened, maybe adulting rearranged my priorities, or maybe it is just how things have always been but one thing I have come to appreciate is that gifts don’t always have to be fancy or loud, Sometimes the simplest things actually carry the warmest meaning.
Take hampers, for example , Hampers just make sense, they are like the “one-size fits all” of Christmas gifting, If you are gifting a family, it saves you the stress of cracking your head over what each person might like, You just pack foodstuff, snacks, drinks, maybe a small treat or two, arrange it in a basket, wrap it nicely, and boom, Christmas sorted, Families love food, and Christmas is literally built on eating, A hamper is like saying, “Here, enjoy your holiday and don't worry about rice and stew for a bit.” I love hampers, they are thoughtful without being complicated.
But for individual gifts? Honestly, anything goes, as long as it comes from a place of love, I think it’s already perfect, even a small item can mean a lot when the intention behind it is genuine, people always assume gifts must be luxurious or expensive, but I think Christmas gifts only need one ingredient - theheart, if you bring something with love, even if it is small, trust me, it lands differently.
Now, when it comes to Christmas gifts that I have received… well, that list is pretty short, Like I said, I don’t usually get Christmas gifts like that, but there is one Christmas I will never forget, and anytime I think about it, it still warms my heart.
It was either two or three years ago, can't remember but I remember the feeling clearly, A fellow Hiver here gifted me some Hive tokens for Christmas and told me to use it to treat my kids, that gesture might have seemed small to some people, but to me, at that moment, it was everything. I can still remember the excitement on my kids’ faces, We went out, got them some nice Christmas things, and honestly, it turned into one of the best Christmases we’ve had in a long time.
It wasn’t even the items we bought that made it special, it was the fact that for once, I didn’t have to overthink or do mental gymnastics with money, I could just be present, enjoy the moment, and watch my kids create memories that they still talk about, T
that Christmas stood out, it was joyful, peaceful, and full of gratitude. And that gift, see those Hive tokens became one of the most meaningful Christmas gifts I have ever received in my life.
So when people ask me now, “What would you like for Christmas?” my answer is actually very simple, I just want my kids to be fine, I want them to be well fed, clothed nicely, and happy throughout the season, If I can see them smile genuinely this Christmas, if I can give them a little peace and comfort, that alone is the best present anyone could possibly give me.
At this point in my life, my Christmas wish list isn’t about things, It is about moments, Happiness, Stability, Laughter, just seeing my kids enjoying their holiday without stress, that would be more than enough, that would be the kind of Christmas gift that stays with me forever.
So yeah, Santa, if you are reading this, please, just bring joy to my home, that is all I am asking for this year.
