blocktrades@blocktrades I just asked Andarchy from Koinos about what he thinks about the state of the Hive blockchain and I just thought his answer was interesting so I'll forward it here:

This really highlights how much of a bottleneck hard forks are and why it’s so important to divorce application logic from blockchain logic. They have to do all of this highly technical blockchain work just to scale their application. It seems like Blocktrades is doing a good job continuing to build on an antiquated architecture. To be clear, with software age can be a good thing because it’s battle-tested. Graphene works. So one option they have is to pitchfork Hive and move all of the “operations” on Hive into smart contracts on a fork of the Koinos blockchain framework. Because Koinos smart contracts are upgradeable, they would be able to make granular updates to the blockchain without hard forks. The other option will be to implement those operations as smart contracts running on the Koinos mainnet. Every feature currently on Hive (including DPoS) could be reimplemented on Koinos mainnet. This would not only allow them to update their smart contracts in that same granular, fork-less way, but they would no longer have to deal with the blockchain at all. They could focus all their attention on make their application better. Each implementation would increase their speed of improvement by multiples

For example, someone is already working on a standalone reputation system that will be a massive improvement

They probably already know all of this. The truth is that a Koinos is still probably a bit too immature for their needs. But if they were interested in exploring these options we would be happy to work with them and develop a plan for migrating to Koinos safely and efficiently. Migrating to an entirely new architecture is a huge deal which is why good architecture engineering is so critical. Because once a project chooses to build on an architecture it’s nearly impossible to migrate off of it.

If the hive devs wanted to leverage Koinos, we would be more than happy to work with them. But I also totally understand why they would be highly resistant to migrating to a new architecture. One possible route would be to work With the hive devs to implement a cross chain Bridge between hive and mainnet. This would allow hive applications to effectively leverage both chains, and facilitate a more orderly migration. And perhaps allow for an incomplete migration if that is desirable for whatever reason.

Any thoughts? :)
