A lot of great Steemit communities are forming for like-minded Steemers to organize around a shared purpose!

A great example is the #heartgoodnesschallenge community, which was started by jennamarbles@jennamarbles with the purpose of using Steemit to start a marathon of good deeds. Awesome idea! Read more about it in the original post - here.

A small grassroots group that I am a huge fan of is the #originals group. They want to provide a way to help content creators that have new original content to stand out, so they created the tag "originals" for creators to use when posting original content. The community was created by minion@minion in this post - here.

There are a lot of language specific groups that are forming now too: #cn for Chinese, #kr for Korean, #sv for Swedish, and #ru for Russian (just to list a few). Steemit is picking up Steem internationally - sweet!

The Secret Writer Project founded by stellabelle@stellabelle is an incredible idea! stellabelle@stellabelle collects stories from users who want to share stories, but don't feel comfortable putting themselves out there. She shares them anonymously using the tag #secret-writer, and then splits the revenue with the anonymous author 50/50. Genius!!

The #steemitphotochallenge is an extremely popular community, which is obviously getting a lot of attention. As someone new to the site though, one might wonder - what is this community about? If I want to create a post, what are the guidelines? How does the 'challenge' part work? You can read about it in the original original post from @jamtaylor.

It is great that all of these communities are forming organically, but we need a better way to organize them and get the word out!

Currently the only way for Steemers to find out about these communities is to come across the posts by chance, or through the grassroots efforts of the organizers. If someone doesn't come across the right post though, then they will never know these communities exist.

As more people join the Steemit community, there is going to be a growing need for like-minded individuals to find and join communities with a set of shared principles. We need a way for users to easily search through communities and find ones that interest them, and to create new ones and get the word out!

Let's start building communities!

To define your community, create a post in the "steemit-communityorganization" category with the information about your community.

Things to include:

  • A good clear subject and intro, so that someone scrolling through the communities can tell what the community is about
  • The name of the community
  • The purpose of the community
  • The hashtag category that the community will use
  • The rules of the community
  • A community logo/image if you have one
  • Anything else that is relevant to the community and how to participate in it
  • Be sure to use the "steemit-communityorganization" category, as well as your community hashtag when creating the tags for the post!

Anything that is posted in the "steemit-communityorganization" category that is not used to define a Steemit community should be voted down as spam.

If you have already formed a community and want it to be part of the listing, please create a new post in the "steemit-communityorganization" category to officially list the group.
