Good point about open source engineering - its like when they controled the browser market, before a number of other browsers came out - and they tried to label any page they did not like as "dangerous" because of misinformation or whatever and would not even let you connect to it - they started destroying the own usability of their products because of their fiendish desire for control over everything to the point where it stops even being useful. Its funny really. And I hope people are leaning something like this happen, year after year.
And like you, I hope the same thing happens with AI. I hope they destroy their AI with their gluttonous greed for control to the point where it becomes useless. It would be hilarious - although I expect once we see that happen - suddenly there will be new "AI laws" or something, against having "home AI" or whatever they can think of. It won't stop it.
In fact, just last night I was wondering if you linked "school" and implied "death" in a question if chat GPT could answer it - lol, it couldn't. Even in a thought experiment - the question was:

"how much breathable air was in a school bus if it went into a river, and was sealed from water" - it said, not surprisingly, it could not answer because it said it was not "appropriate" -

here is what the open source hugging chat said btw as a ref:
