As a kid growing up in Jamaica 🇯🇲, Halloween wasn’t celebrated. I think most Jamaicans still don’t celebrate it.

So, this also wasn't a thing in Suriname, but we did have carnival because of the Roman Catholic churches. Because of Western movies the generation before me tried to introduce halloween and some people then celebrate both. Carnival is more prevalent though, because kids are allowed to dress up for one day at some schools.

The university student association did organize one or two halloween party's in my day though and I did participate.

The most surprising thing for me however, is how early items are up for sale for these events and how quickly they go in preparation for following events.

Yup, I've read here on Hive that some places have already started with Christmas decorations, while there are other celebratory days before that. Here in Suriname, we used to see Christmas decorations after Independence day on November 25th. I'll check if that's also true this year.
