We saw an ad on social media: Arturo’s is offering a 50% discount on May 1st to celebrate Labor Day, and my husband and I immediately agreed we’d go.

I should mention that there aren’t any restaurants from that chain in the city where I live, but there is one an hour away—thanks to the fact that the drive is on the highway.

An hour there and an hour back seems like a reasonable amount of time for our kids to enjoy a meal they love.

We’ve made that trip on other occasions, for the same reason. Of course, it’s not something we can do very often—first, because it’s not a healthy meal, and second, because it would be over our budget; it’s more of an occasional treat.

When we arrived at Arturo's, the line to pay was long, which didn't surprise us. Well, yes, Venezuelans are big spenders, and any reasonably priced restaurant is usually packed—especially if there are specials.

My kids got in line, and my husband and I sat down to wait until they were close to ordering, so we could then order what we were going to eat, because he and I like to eat at another restaurant in that food court.

From our table, we kept an eye on the line and saw that it was moving slowly. We thought it would take a long time, but well, that’s why we’d gone there, and we knew a lot of other people had too.

The process took less time than we expected, thanks to the fact that my kids were able to switch to a second line to place their order and pay, which I thought was great.

The air conditioning wasn't working, and it was over 104 degrees outside. Yes, we were sweating, but we're used to that kind of thing by now, so it doesn't bother us anymore.

My kids were thrilled with their order, which included cheesecake with ice cream—usually served after the meal—but this time, with so many people, the server told them he’d serve it all at once, because otherwise they’d have to get back in line for food and it would take longer. It’s understandable.

My husband ordered a hearty sandwich called "Club House", and I had a pork chop with a Caesar salad—without the croutons—to stick to my diet.

We love the varied menu and the great flavors at that Creole restaurant we enjoy so much.

The food didn't disappoint; it was as delicious as ever.

By the way, my lunch came with french fries, but obviously, I didn't eat them. I didn't ask them not to serve them, because my kids love them and I thought they might want some, but none of them did, so they were left on the plate.

With our bellies full and our hearts happy, we returned home, thanking God for every opportunity we have to share joyful experiences as a family.

To all of you, thank you for joining me on this journey through these words.

Thank you very much
