Spring and summer are by far my favorite seasons. I eagerly await the arrival of the hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. I love growing various flowers and herbs for them to enjoy throughout the season.
The Ruby Throated Hummingbird comes a few times daily to feast on all the plants. Here she is enjoying the nectar from the Fushia hanging off the porch. She is not even bothered by the fact that I am taking photos of her.
Then she flies over to the feeder to take a long drink before heading to the west garden.
She lands on the netting while drinking from the Salvia plants which are one of their favorites.
The Black Swallowtails are abundant this summer and are always in the butterfly garden. Sometimes I see them dancing with the hummingbirds for dominance of a flower.
The bees and these tiny butterflies love the Zinnia flowers. You can just make it out on the red flower.
I wish you could smell the lovely fragrance of the summer Phlox. They literally perfume the entire yard. I think that is why all the butterflies are attracted to them. I plan on adding some different varieties this fall to this garden.
The yellow Swallowtail spent a long time gathering nectar from them. Isn't she stunning?
While taking pictures of the different Zinnias I spotted this bumblebee on the underside of the flower. He was just hanging there perhaps resting from the mid-day sun.
Another frequent visitor to the yard is this young bunny. He seems to like eating the little white clover that's prolific on my lawn. He was very naughty and we found three large holes in the netting surrounding the yard. We have it up to keep the dog from running away. Now, we have to keep repairing the netting and have to do a perimeter check every day.
Here is one of the frogs that live in my little pond. I get to enjoy seeing him every day.
The Black-Eyed Susans look so pretty at night with one of the solar lights above them.
Here is a shot of the main butterfly garden at night. The Hydrangea tree is stunning in the moonlight. I love to sit on the porch and watch the fireflies come out to dance around the yard.
After all, isn't that one of the best things about summer? Enjoying the amazing nature that surrounds us. Happy gardening to all my friends.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
