Heyah! It's finally weekend, a week after my most challenging and rushed cake order. I really should update my rules and prices soon. Whew!
Apart from the Mother's Day jelly cake orders, one made an advance order. It's a birthday cake which will be picked up about a week after Mother's Day. The customer wanted to add a customized greeting but it was too long for the cake size she chose. In the end, she settled for the stylized Happy Birthday greeting.
I began making the base two days before the pick up date and decorated it a day before. From my observation, it's best to chill the base at least a day before decorating and another day to let the bottom layer fully set.
Making this order was easy and less stressful because I had enough time for this single cake. The design was also something I did last Mother's Day so estimating the spaces wasn't much difficult.
So I unmolded the cake early morning, packed it, and sent a photo to the customer. I assume she liked how the cake turned out because she didn't complain. Her only instruction was for me to copy exactly the sample cake design I uploaded months ago on my page.
I still have lots of time and so I was able to put a design on the ends of the ribbon. I used to shape the ends of the ribbons this way when my business was still new.
It's not seen here on the photo but I also added a candle after putting it on the plastic bag. And since it's a birthday cake, I used a birthday tag. I bought more than enough birthday tags because most orders I get are for birthdays.
The customer arrived a few minutes after to pick up the cake. I then went into a convenience store to purchase a hand soap because I already ran out of it for my bathroom.
While inside a convenience store, I got a message from the customer requesting another order and she'd like to have it at that exact time. I was really stunned for a few seconds. I stopped walking and stared on my phone. Didn't she know making this cake isn't instant?
I told her that the cakes I make are made to order and I can't make it in a snap. After some bargaining, I sighed as I accepted that it's going to be a very hectic day. I told her that I might finish making the cake until 5 in the afternoon which she gladly agreed on.
As soon as I arrived home at 10 A.M., I began putting back my tools and prepared the ingredients. Since there is a customized greeting, I was only able to make the base an hour later.
I composed myself and stayed calm while blasting the chiller at max temperature. Arranging the letters alone requires concentration and delicate hands because handling the letters requires extra care or else it will get torn or smashed.
I had to let the base cool down first for at least an hour before putting into the chiller. I kept checking the base if it has already fully set and ready to be injected. And thank goodness because the base had set after two hours in the chiller at full temp.
While waiting for the base to set, I began preparing the flower solution to save time.
I began decorating the cake as soon as the cake was good to be injected. Decorating the cake took me an hour. Around 3:30 P.M., I sent a message to the customer that I am now only waiting for the bottom layer to set before I can unmold it. But I asked for the time to be moved an hour later but she said the establishment she's at will close at 5. You know, I wanted to complain because first, it's a rush order. Second, she asked to have it delivered.
Fifteen minutes before 5, I sent another message to the customer that the bottom layer of the cake is still soft and still can't be unmolded. I asked her if I can deliver it at 5:30 instead. Finally, she agreed.
The bottom layer still hasn't fully set but it was already firm enough to be able to put the cake out of the mold. I kept checking the cake on the way especially when the vehicle makes a sudden stop.
I think I arrived at 5:40 and had successfully handed the cake. I got a mini heart attack when she got the cake and carried it on top of her left arm which caused the container to go slanted. I immediately assisted her and adjusted the container.
Since the location where I delivered the cake was near a mall, I decided to finally eat one of the foods I've been craving lately. But before that, I headed to Watsons and bought a moisturizer and lip balm. I still haven't tried the moisturizer but I'm really happy that I have finally bought a lip balm because it helped a lot with my chapped lips. It's also kind of addicting to use it. And guess I'm also lucky because Watsons was on a Sale so I got these items for a discounted price.
Finally, I went to Tokyo Tokyo to eat dinner. There were only few people and I also saw someone eating alone at the back corner of the restaurant. This gave me the courage to eat alone too. Haha.
I headed to the counter and was supposed to order their Mix & Match bento meal but sadly it was unavailable. I had tempura bento meal instead because I've been craving the crunchiness of a tempura. The cashier also recommended that I get sushi. I was tired and hungry so I just agreed. Yes, give me all that! Lols.
I sat at the farthest area of the restaurant which was also opposite the window of the kitchen area where they bring out the foods to be served.
Few minutes later, my food was served along with the drink. I like Tokyo Tokyo's red iced tea ever since I first had it back in high school. The staff also pointed where the spoon and fork were before she left and I don't know why I stood to get one when I am only using chopsticks. Lol! Maybe I was so hungry or mentally distracted from all the rush I did that day.
And the four tiny pieces of sushi. While I like their tempura, I don't like their sushi that much. It's not that it's not delicious, I just find its taste ordinary.
That's how my day went last week. I'm really glad I was able to finish the rush order, though it was around half an hour late from the agreed time. And I guess the cake ended up okay because I didn't get any complaint about it. Thank God for another successful order!
Also, I got to reward and satisfy my craving after which made me really happy! :)
