I think that's where personal agency comes in. We may not control everything that influences us, but we can sometimes recognize those influences and choose differently.

Exactly. There are things I cannot control, but there are still decisions I can consciously make within those limits.

True. We might have less control than we think, but that doesn't mean we have none.

But I don't think that means choice is meaningless. We clearly experience ourselves as making decisions daily

That's where philosophy gets uncomfortable. You can keep tracing the cause of every decision backward almost forever

I think that's closer to it. Otherwise, we're just reacting to whatever influence is strongest at the time.

That's why self-awareness matters. The more you understand what influences you, the more deliberately you can make decisions.

Maybe not completely. Our emotional state can definitely narrow the choices we see in that moment

Yes. I can't choose every circumstance I'm born into, but I can choose how I respond to some of them.

Exactly. Two people can face the same situation and make different decisions because their experiences have shaped how they see it.

I don't think we can draw a perfect line. Human behaviour is too complicated for that.

Maybe free will isn't about having zero influences. It's about being able to consider those influences and still choose what to do.

I think free will exists, but probably not in the completely unrestricted way we imagine it. Our choices are influenced by our upbringing, environment, experiences and circumstances.
