I think sometimes it's because people see their pastor as someone with spiritual authority, so they naturally give their words more weight than they would give their spouse.

I agree. There's a difference between quitting because you're tired and stopping because you've honestly realized the approach isn't working.

And when you've invested time, money or emotions into something, giving up can feel like admitting all of that was wasted.
