I'd agree with that. Status can make people treat you differently, but it doesn't automatically make you worthy of respect.

True. When everything external is removed, whatever respect remains is probably the real one.

That's a good test. Your behaviour toward people who have nothing to offer you probably says more about your character.

Yes. How you treat someone who can't do anything for you says a lot more about you.

That's true. Society tends to notice achievements faster than character.

Which is why I think character is the better test of genuine respect.

Exactly. Someone might obey you because they fear losing something, not because they respect you.

No. Someone can command attention because they're powerful while nobody genuinely respects them.

But I won't lie, status does command a certain level of attention.

And sometimes those are people with no impressive title at all.

True, but I also think genuine respect exists. There are people you respect regardless of their wealth or position.

Definitely. Someone powerful can say the same thing as someone without influence, but people will react completely differently.

Probably the benefits that came with the status rather than the individual.

Exactly. That's why I sometimes wonder whether people actually respect the person or just what the person represents.

I think people respect both, but status definitely influences how much respect someone receives.

I think that's the strange thing about life. Some experiences we desperately wanted to escape from eventually become part of the reason we're better prepared for what's ahead.

And it can even help you understand other people better because you've experienced something similar yourself.

Exactly. Some things should be remembered, not because you want to relive them, but because they remind you of what you've survived.

Yes. You can't change what happened, but you can decide whether it continues controlling your future.

Not necessarily. I think sometimes something bad is simply bad, and we shouldn't feel pressured to find a beautiful lesson in everything.
