It seems that they can and did. I don't even think there is a reasonable presumption that they should not. After all, the money is entrusted to them and is under their control. Why shouldn't they vote

RE: WTF is going on with STEEM governance?
I have no dog in this race myself, I'm simply curious: why do you think this is illegal? Which laws are being broken, in which countries?

The best part of this comment is that Steemit used to have a real-life Dale Gribble, too.

And changing the powerdown to 24 hours for what reason? After centralizing the chain so totally and all of the dapps shutting down in protest, it would otherwise take weeks for every single user to rush

Sure. But my money's on the exchanges and steemit.com remaining pointed at the current coup-fork. Without websites, a Steem Classic fork (or would it be simply Steem? Ethereum Classic is the one that declined

This isn't about DPoS. It's simply not illegal or criminal to patch a f/oss p2p app running on your own machine, which is what the witnesses did. This ain't a bank account, it's a blockchain: it's a game

AIUI, that op was explicitly created to render whale stake nonvoting to be able to remove the centralization of power risk to the chain. Today, that risk became non-theoretical. (That's actually also a

I wonder how the government regulators will feel about a single organization unambiguously unilaterally dictating the price feeds for the SBD conversion. Now that the blockchain has a single operator,

Soft Fork 22.2 was maliciously structured, intending to freeze a handful of very targeted accounts and taking away their rights and possession to their owned asset, and may be deemed illegal and criminal.

RE: STEEM is still not Steemit, even if Tron buys Steemit.
Seems to me that if someone buys Steemit Inc, they are now the employers of the developers of the blockchain. Of course, the witnesses can refuse to run some new code if they don't like it, and maybe even

The fact both TRON and STEEM went up today post the announcement only proves that the market and industry at large view this partnership as a mutually beneficial alliance. Does it? Or does it simply prove

Just throwing these files around without accountability is dangerous as it leaves open the potential of everyone being too cheap or lazy to do their own verification I think perhaps the threat model here

Why even have an "x" close button on the annoying of-interest-only-to-technical-people blue wallet post alert bar if it's only going to respawn every single page/app load?

RE: Important Changes to Steemit.com and Wallet
Generally speaking, if you can remember your private key (password), then it's not secure. The concept of cryptographic salt was invented specifically for this reason. Store a bcrypt of the user's master

Storage is not very expensive. Extremely large hard drives are very cheap. The costs are power, redundancy, HA, retrieval, bandwidth; even with a proof-of-storage challenge to nodes that claim to store

RE: Wallet App Soft Roll-Out is Live!
It looks like their 1.0 release had a Google Analytics requirement. That was always one of the necessary evils of the social site that I had hoped would eventually disappear. Guess not.
