Keeping the streets clean is an important responsibility of the community dwellers. The authorities made provision for drainage which helps in coordinating the flow of water so that damage to the roads and erosion could be avoided. These gutters run through all our streets.
The citizens are expected to keep these gutters clean.
Destructive Practices
There are several unhealthy practices which people do that affect the effectiveness of controlling erosion in our community. Such practices lead to community disasters. The dumping of refuse in the drainage is one of the practices which is devastating to the community. We should avoid the dumping of refuse in the gutters. The government authorities make laws against this. The citizens should respect the civic laws and keep the drainage clean.
Negligence also contributes to the poor management of our drainage. A lot of people do not bother to inspect the gutters passing through their houses to ensure that it has a free flow for running water to flow through. This is not a good practice. Let us be concerned with government infrastructures around us knowing that we are affected either positively or negatively by what happens to it.
Raising buildings on the drainage is not good. Many people put up shops and malls on the part that is supposed to be for the drainage of water. This practice could lead to flooding which would later affect the community negatively.
