So I spent three years almost ten years ago working on an app like that for a well funded startup, that ended up scrapping it for several reasons, mostly due to larger competitors taking the market before our app was done.

It was designed to let you meet up with people, find people, and basically, involved merging all the best aspects of what were then popular apps like 4square, meetup.com and forums and groups and friends and profiles and maps with directions to people with interests like yours in your city who were also out and about at the same time as you and locating, meeting, friending each other and all that stuff.

We actually did make it all work on android and ios and had it in the app stores, but right at the same time, Facebook rolled out Events and that plus user feedback that the privacy factor, especially for single women was super-duper creepy to the testers in the city markets we rolled out betas in and so it failed to really launch at all.

We implemented all kinds of privacy controls and stuff, but people just weren't down for it. No matter how helpful it actually was or good at what it did. It creeped people out. We were mildly surprised but not shocked by those results and the billionaire backer finally cut the funding and shut it down.

So your results may vary, but test your market with polls like this BEFORE you spend some billionaires venture capital, cause they get reallllly mad when they cant sell the investment at the end of the day. ;)
