I agree it is cruelty. It was extended to 18 years old, so 16 and 17 year old young adults were not allowed out without parents either. If the parents worked they were locked inside for the whole day.

Unsure about all countries, but the UK took spelling out of the curriculum in the late 1960's. My mother tells me. You now have children like my nephews leaving school unable to spell. They use text talk
