Today's word gets to be among my favorites both because of it's meaning and because of the pronunciation.

audacity

/ɔːˈdasɪti/

Let's hear it!

Thanks to Emma Saying for the pronunciation.

What does it mean?

The dictionaries tell us that:

-it means willingness to take bold risks, synonym with "daring", "bravery", "heroism"

-it means rude or disrespectful behavior, synonym with "impertinence", "insolence" and even "sass"

Origin

The word comes from Medieval Latin audacitas, from Latin audax , meaning "bold" , from audeō meaning "i am bold, i dare".

I'll end this post with a quote from Benjamin Disraeli :

"Success is the child of audacity."
