It's been more than a month since I started teaching my kid a little bit more seriously than we used to. At first, I didn't have a lesson plan. I just sort of go with the flow. The initial target was to get her to read and write. Just the basics.
But then I thought of following a lesson plan just so we can track her progress. Nothing that would put too much pressure on her of course. The main concept of the teaching method I prefer is following our child. We listen to her as much as possible. The idea is to get her to love learning, not force her into it.
Of course there are moments when she and I would argue and disagree while we are studying. That's when my subconscious keeps on telling me to assert my authority towards my child. Sometimes days pass by when we don't go through our study time just because. And when that happens, that's when I start to panic and that's when I start to pressure myself to enforce study time.
But I noticed that when she don't feel like studying, she really would not cooperate. When this happens, I try to use the playful approach. Most of the time, it works and we get to finish our reading materials.
To be fair, there are tumes when we complete two days' worth of lessons in one day. That's her study time high mood. I take advantage of those moments amd introduce new topics to her.
In the couple of weeks that we have been trying homeschooling, I can say that not onlyy kid has learned something. I have my own takeaways myself. And what's more amazing is I get to know my daughter even more.
This is the first time she was able to read a whole paragraph with very minimal assistance. I just write these paragraphs myself. I try to come up with paragraphs built with a couple of three letter words.
Reading has helped her with her boredom especially with the lockdown. I'm so glad we started our reading lessons earlier this year.
