I'm not sure I understand your comment. You can continue using Steem as you always have; communities participation is voluntary.

The only hard part about threading 'lite' comments is a stable parent reference, but we could use the first 8-10 bits of the tx hash for this purpose. The main reason I suggested non-threaded was for

The communities engine is build on Hivemind, and yes they are similar to reddit. They will live on steemit.com.

Next month

Hive Communities is an open protocol built on an open-source framework, which makes it easier to leverage from many UIs. We already have some splintering but this design will promote unification if it's

Ditto

At MVP, both SMTs and communities rely on numerical identifiers.

Yes.

One of the nice-to-haves for hivemind is comments via custom_json -- these would not be threaded, nor would they collect payouts. They would use far less RC than normal comments, so it makes them useful

why would people want to build communities in a place where vote selling dominates? IMO it's likely that vote selling dominates because we lack better tools to cooperate socially (as humans). My goal with

I agree, I think that is still the best way, but now there is no chance for it to "trend" once you have done that work. Does scaling mean that we leave all that work to the bots? If there isn't

Personally I think until the platform is easier and more fun to use, signups run the risk of turning off users and making it harder to re-acquire them in the future. (Unless you're targeting early adopters.)

Naming is a bit of a "of 3 pick 2" situation. Zooko's Triangle illustrates it well ("security" can be swapped with "complexity"). The current approach is that every community

It was also possible to get curated by humans instead of bots, whales even! People would actually read your posts and vote for them if they liked them. Lots of people would see it and upvote it if they

Taking a deeper dive, I agree that the spam situation is not bad, aside from a few concentrated pockets. I do wonder if part of it is decreased usage. Free downvotes will certainly help, especially if

Yes, the approach discussed here does give the author a stronger voice, but calling it unilateral is extreme. Comment rendering is influenced by a variety of signals. The inspiration for the OP was to

I've taken a look at how other platforms handle muting and blocks/mutes are generally just applied to your own posts (well, also prevents mentions/DMs). I can block someone on Twitter and they can't respond

If it's plain to see who was muted, and if "Reveal all" was a sticky setting, isn't this a trivial change for anyone concerned about hidden opinions?

Downvoting to hide comments only works if you are a relatively high SP user. Also, reward disagreement and content visibility are separate concerns which are bundled in the current system.

That however may change with HF21/SPS, as we'd potentially be able to be incentivized to add Steem features from a new source of rewards. 👍 I think if Steem had 21 entire organizations, moderately funded,
