I've been carpet bombing the runway for the coming CBDC by getting out in front of it with my NPC friends. I was caught flat-footed with the "pandemic" exercise but I have been mentioning CBDC and the programming "possibilities" long enough and often enough that most of my friends have responded with "well, no one is going to accept that" and that makes me happy, but of course I will continue the bombing. The only bad part is that my friend group skews older and I am highly suspicious that the gen-z and younger folk will not grasp the danger and indeed will jump at the chance for a $25 starbucks gift card in exchange for their ceding control of their currency in perpetuity. Maybe we need to import Nigerians to the USA to help balance the scales.
