All of this tracking and tracing...does it remind you of something? In "1984", O'Brien told Winston that Big Brother exists as "power for power's sake", but I never quite grokked that idea.
I agree with Mark Kulacz of HousatonicITS - the "enterprise" isn't coveting power - it covets immortality, and they need human lab monkeys. Experimentation on mice, monkeys, et al, can provide only so much data - and they are expensive. Humans will provide so much better data, but, like lab monkeys under experimentation, they must be placed in controllable conditions and monitored in every way possible. Diets must be assimilated. Range of motion must be restricted. All specimens must be made as uniform as possible, maybe even as far as gender.
This is where we are going. The restrictions aren't the end, they are the means to an end.
