Exploring the Maigualida Community (Eng/Esp)

After taking in the stunning ocean views at Maigualida Beach, I decided to head back to where my family was, but I took a different path to explore the community a little more. I walked down an alley to reach the area visible from the highway.

Maigualida is a fairly large community; while there are humble or modest homes, there are also modern buildings with up to three stories. I walked through various parts of the community, looking for my way back as I navigated paved streets and dirt roads. I gazed at some beautiful gardens and came across a custard apple bush; I immediately thought of my family’s orchard. I’ve enjoyed this fruit countless times, and behind its delicious flavor lies the comforting embrace of my grandparents.

As I walked, I ran into some locals who politely greeted me with “good morning.” Of course, I had all the hallmarks of a tourist—only someone who isn’t from there would look at a cherimoya bush with such nostalgia. Everyone was engrossed in their own particular activity: some were fixing their cars, while others were watering plants or hanging laundry, and still others were cleaning fish—the daily routine of a beach community.

This is a tourist area with plenty of amenities to make visitors feel at home—and, as a result, want to come back. I explored several stores selling all kinds of groceries and renting out chairs, tables, and umbrellas so you can be comfortable on the beach and protect yourself from the sun. One important tip is to always wear sunscreen; I got complacent on a cool day, and my shoulders paid the price.

As I wandered around this area, I made my way to the highway and from there back to the beach resort. My family was enjoying the seaside scenery in the shade. Maigualida is a beachfront community that lives and breathes at a different pace than the city. Nature is the most valuable thing here, which is why the people who live here take care of their surroundings and remain attentive to what’s going on. Rules for coexistence—such as the ban on bonfires, camping, the sale of alcohol, and swimming at the beach after 7 p.m.—must be respected so that everyone can enjoy the area in harmony.

Luego de observar los excelentes paisajes marinos que me ofrecía la playa Maigualida, decidí emprender el camino de regreso hacia donde estaba mi familia, pero por un sendero diferente, explorando un poco más la comunidad, me trasladé por un callejón para acceder a la zona que se observa desde la carretera.

Maigualida es una comunidad bastante amplia, así como hay casas humildes o modestas, también existen estructuras modernas de hasta tres niveles. Caminé por varias partes buscando el rumbo de regreso entre calles pavimentadas y caminos de tierra. Fijé la mirada en algunos jardines hermosos, me topé con una mata de chirimoya, de inmediato recordé el huerto familiar. He disfrutado de esta fruta en incontables ocasiones y detrás de su delicioso sabor está el reconfortante abrazo de mis abuelos.

Mientras caminaba me topé con algunos habitantes y de forma cortés me daban los buenos días, por supuesto que tenía todas las características de ser una turista, solo alguien que no es de allí contempla una mata de chirimoya con tanta nostalgia. Cada persona estaba sumergida en alguna actividad en particular, unos arreglaban sus carros, mientras que otros regaban las plantas o tendían ropa y algunos arreglaban pescados, la rutina de una comunidad playera.

Esta es una zona turística que cuenta con muchos servicios para que los visitantes se sientan a gusto y, por lo tanto, deseen volver. Exploré varias bodegas con ventas de todo tipo de víveres y alquileres de sillas, mesas y sombrillas para estar cómodos en la playa y protegerse del sol. Un dato importante es usar siempre protector solar, me confíe de un día fresco y mis hombros sufrieron las consecuencias.

En mi transitar por estos lados pude llegar a la carretera y de allí de nuevo al balneario. Mi familia disfrutaba en la sombra del paisaje marino. Maigualida es una comunidad en torno a una playa que vive y respira una dinámica diferente al ritmo urbano. La naturaleza acá es lo más valioso, por eso las personas que habitan aquí cuidan sus espacios y permanecen atentos a lo que ocurre. Normas de convivencia como la prohibición de fogatas, instalación de campamentos, venta de licores y el bañarse en la playa después de las 7 de la noche debían respetarse para poder disfrutar en armonía.
