I admire Chanakya a lot. I watched the old TV series. He was great ancient thinker philospher and economist. Chanakya was known for writing the Arthashastra, which covers principles of economics, politics, and governance. His work explored topics like monetary and fiscal policies, land use, and welfare, making him a significant figure in the development of economic thought in ancient India. He had a sharp brsin that make the governance easy. An economist like him always plays a significant role in development of an economy. To highlight the role of economist, Sanskrit says ;
अर्थोपचयविज्ञानं अस्ति यस्य स पण्डितः|
सरः सलिलसपूर्णं आश्रयन्ति विहङ्गमाः||
Arthopachayavigyaanam asti yasya sa panditah.
Sarah salilasapoornam aashryanti vihangamaah.
Arthopachaya = creation of wealth.
Vigyaanam = a science.
Asti = exists, has.
Yasya = whose.
Sa = he.
Panditah = a learned person.
Sarah = a lake.
Salila = water.
Sapoorna = filled with.
Aashryanti = provide shelter and support.
Vihangamaaah = birds.
i.e. The person who is proficient in economics (scientific rules of acquisition and protection of wealth and property etc.) is truly called a scholar. Just as a lake full of water provides shelter to hundreds of birds, similarly an economist also makes good use of his abilities in making a country prosperous.
In this proverb, economics has been considered equivalent to science and an economist has been compared to a lake and its usefulness in the society has been highlighted. An economist analyzes data to understand and predict economic trends, providing insights that guide decision making for businesses, governments, and individuals. They develop theories and use mathematical models to advise on policies such as taxation and interest rates, research the distribution of resources and services, and help shape economic strategy to promote efficiency, equity, and stability in the economy.
In the absence of good thinker in economist, the economynof A nation may faltter and never progress.
